Babies and Monkey Munch!

Well, today is a momentous day for the FuFu sisters (my group of girlfriends from high school).  We welcomed the first of the 2nd generation sisters!  Jaynann and her husband Adam welcomed their little Emma Renae Daly into the world at 3:02 PM!  She weighed in at 8 lbs 6 ounces and was 20 inches long!  We spent several nights by our phones awaiting the birth text (we will all sleep well tonight though)!  Jaynann originally went into the hospital to be induced on last Thursday (the 26th) at 1 AM.  Well, after MANY hours of contractions and not progress after they gave her the medication to get the process going, the doctors sent her home to "wait it out" some more.  So, tired of going through hours of labor producing no baby, Jaynannie went home to wait and see if Emma would come naturally.  Well, she didn't so they went back to the hospital last night at 1 AM to try the induction again.  Well, it didn't work again either so she was delivered by c-section this afternoon.  I told Jaynann that this was definitely her and Adam's child.  She had to make a dramatic entrance into the world (the met while at SUU in the theater department)!  She couldn't just be born like all other babies!  Congrats Jaynann and Adam!  We can't wait to see your little lady!

The other blog worthy even of my day is less exciting.  Since I have been home during the day, I have a new guilty pleasure.  Daytime TV stinks, so I was pleased to find an entertaining show to watch while I am folding laundry or doing school type organizational things.  I am a HUGE fan now of the show Jon and Kate + 8 on TLC!  I know that sounds really crazy, but I love it.  For those who don't know about the show, it is a documentary type show that follows the lives of a family with a set of twins and sextuplets....yes 6 babies at 1 time!!!  I have even got Cameron watching it when it is on at night!  Well, on an episode I watch the other day, Kate and the little girls made a treat called Monkey Munch.  Cam told me I had to make it, but I was a little apprehensive to try it because it has peanut butter in it, and we all know how I feel about peanut butter.  But I bought the ingredients that I didn't already have at home, and made it this afternoon.  Oh my!!  It is delicious!  I tweaked it a bit, as I usually do when I cook things, and added more chocolate chips and less peanut butter.  (I was making it and was covered with melted chocolate when I got the birth text, so now my phone is a little sticky.)  It may be a new favorite treat for the Romero's!  I know so many of you will love it as much as we do, so here is the recipe!

Monkey Munch

9 Cups of Chex Cereal
1 Cup of Chocolate Chips
1/2 Cup of Peanut Butter
1/4 Cup of Butter
1 Tsp of Vanilla
1 1/2 Cups of Powdered Sugar

Pour Chex cereal into a large mixing bowl and set aside.  Combine chocolate chips, butter, and peanut butter into a microwave safe bowl and heat on high in the microwave until melted.  Mix it well until everything is combined.  Add the vanilla.  Pour the chocolate mixture over the Chex cereal and mix until all pieces are coated in chocolate.  Pour chocolate covered cereal into a 2 gallon ziplock bag (I did mine in a 1 gallon bag.....I just did it in 2 batches).  Add in powdered sugar and shake until all pieces are covered in sugar.  Let cool and ENJOY!!!

Movies! Movies! and more Movies!

Since school has been out, Cam and I have been to lots of movies.  The end of the school year was so hectic for me, and Cam was working a lot more afternoon/evening shifts we weren't able to have too many date nights.  It's been nice to be able to spend more time together, and we hope to be able to keep having regular date nights when school starts again.  We've seen some pretty good movies lately that we encourage everyone to go and see (if you haven't already)!!

Sex and the City Movie was the first movie seen in the rounds of movies!  I went and saw this movie with my mom and my sister.  I loved the movie!  It was a little depressing at times, but was such a great friend movie!  I couldn't help but think about all my girlie friends the whole time!  I just we don't have to deal with a lot of the drama the NY ladies did!

Last weekend, Cam and I stayed with his brothers and sister while his parents went to Park City for their anniversary.  Saturday night we took Lauren to dinner at Jason's Deli and to see Kung Fu Panda at the Gateway.  It was a really funny show.  I was a little hesitant to go and see it, but it really was a pretty good show.  It's a good one to rent when it comes out on video if you want a good laugh.

Thursday, Cam and I spent the day together since we was off work.  We stayed home and relaxed in the morning, since it was the day after the unfortunate falling down the stairs incident, then went and ran a few errands.  While we were out, Cam decided he wanted to go and give blood.  He has the rare blood type so he gives fairly often.  We drove to the Red Cross in Murray so he could get poked.  I have not had good experiences with blood donations, so I opted to be the moral support.  He went back and did all paperwork stuff, then went to the chair.  All was going well until about half way through his blood bag, the machine started beeping.  The technician came over and told him that he'd stopped.  She started wiggling the needle in his arm to see if it would start flowing again.  So at this point Cameron is freakin out!  The blood doesn't start flowing, so she tells him that he needs to rotate his arm while she moves the needle around!!!  AHH!!  Well, he does and blood starts flowing down his arm!  Well, she looks over and sees the blood running down his arm, and decides he is done.  Holy crap!  So needless to day, his arm was so sore and bruised after the whole experience.  We decided to lighten our day, we decided to go and see The Incredible Hulk.  We both really liked it.  It was a loud and action packed movie, and was just what we needed after our pain filled 24 hours!

Our last cinematic experience was one Cam and I have been waiting for!  Disney and Pixar's Wall*E!  I was excited because I like cute movies, and Cameron because Pixar's relation to Apple.  He grew to love it more because of the other Apple elements used in the movie.  Wall*E has a first generation iPod, and that when Wall*E reboots, he makes the sound that Apple computers do when the boot up.  An Apple nerds dream come true!  Anyways, we really like it and would recommend it to anyone!

There are a a few other movies we are really excited to see this summer......The Dark Knight mostly!  Cam and I are both HUGE Batman fans!  We are looking forward to Hancock as well.  The Happening and Wanted are both already out, but are also on our list to see eventually.  I am most looking forward to the 6th edition in the Harry Potter (The Half Blood Prince) series which comes out on November 21!  I will be first in line to buy tickets as well as to see the movie when it comes out!

The Death of The Daily Mac Intake

Well, Cam's geek blog was short lived.  He decided that as an Apple employee, he might not be allowed to post such information regarding their products since he isn't an authorized Mac spokesperson.  I hope everyone who wanted to got to take a look at it since it was pretty awesome, as it is now gone.  Maybe he will come up with other nerdy things to blog about.

Ouch!!!, and More!!

Well, I was really beginning to think that the clumsy gene I've been cursed with had left my body since I have had no major injuries or accidents since the 9th grade.  I was very wrong.  Let's recap all of my injuries in life thus far....
  • 4 Broken Arms:  1 from tripping over a hose, and both at the same time from playing dodgeball in 3rd grade P.E, and 1 from another clumsy incidence that I don't remember.
  • 1 Broken Ankle:  I was coming down the ladder of a slid, missed a step and landed hard on the ground.  Another classic "Clumsy Lindsey" moment.
  • 1 Shattered Thumb:  From crushing it on an inside pitch I was trying trying to bunt.
  • 1 Knee ligament injury:  Again, playing softball.
Now, for the current clumsy moment.  Last night, at about 10 PM, Cam and I were waiting for my Dad and Tayler to get back from getting Tayler dinner last night on the front porch.  We were going to get delicious frozen yogurt from the Shop n' Go on 17th and 17th (best frozen yogurt EVER!!).  Well, I was sitting on the bench on the porch, and Cam was at the bottom of the steps by the porch.  He wanted me to come and stand by him, so I got up, made it down 3 or the 4 steps, and slid off of the bottom step and landed on my right foot in a hole where the concrete had crumbled away.  I heard 2 loud pops, and went right to the ground.  Holy crap it hurt!!!  I thought my ankle was broken in half!  My first thought was that I wasn't going to be able to go to Vegas with my girlies because I was going to be in a cast (not a good thought at all!)!  I was hit with instant pain, dizziness, and nausea!  I didn't cry though (mostly because I think I was in shock), which I was very proud of.  Cam I think was in shock too and trying not to laugh at my falling down the stairs.  I had to lay down on the cold, wet cement (the sprinklers were on conveniently) so I didn't pass out.  We decided not to go to the ER, and wait and see what happened over night.  I did manage to get up and hobble down the stairs to my house, where nurse Cameron took care of me with ice, elevation, and medicine.  He was afraid that this morning we'd wake up to a softball sized ankle and have to go to the doctor.  My ankle is VERY swollen, and a little bruised, but not broken, just sprained pretty good!  I have never really had much to show as far as ankles go, but now on my right leg.....no ankle exists...... just straight tree trunk leg.....for now!  It's my driving foot too, so it is good Cameron is off work today and can be my chauffeur!  Wonderful huh!?!  Only I could do something so stupid to injure myself!

So, Cam has decided to create a blog of his own......a technology blog.  We all know how much he loves electronic things.....especially those created by Apple.  So he has used his "geekdom" to create his tech blog called......The Daily Mac Intake.  It is pretty sweet!  You'll have to check it out.  I added it to our other blog links.  I am also working on putting together a blog for parents of my students to use to see what we are doing on a weekly basis at school, and to be informed.  I hope to add links to important school documents too.  It is a work in progress!

I started unpacking my teacher stuff in my new classroom at Horizon.  My room is A LOT smaller than my old room at Parkside, but I do have a lot more storage space which is nice.  It is hard going into a room that a teacher has taught in for 30 years and collect 30 years of stuff!  There is so much CRAP that is so old and nasty that I am throwing away!  I also am getting rid of a lot of t he furniture that she used.  I like open space, and can't deal with a lot of clutter and stuff in my way.  I guess that is a trait I inherited from my mother!  I had planned to go in again today, but since I am walking like an idiot, I think I will wait at least until tomorrow, maybe even Monday to go and clean some more.

I have been tagged......by Liz!

Well, I am a sucker for silly blog postings.  I have been tagged with the "Hubby Questionnaire", so here is all the dirt on Cameron that you have all always wanted to know!

Name:  Cameron Wayne Romero

How long have you been together:  Ever since December 10, 2002.....so about 5 1/2 years!

How long did you date:  4 1/2 years.  We were engaged for one of those years though.

How old is he:  22 years old

Who eats more:  Well, I think I win when it comes to the sweet treats.  Cam can definitely eat more savory (look at me I sound like a chef) foods.

Who said I Love You first:  I believe Cameron.  I am a bit of a pansie when it comes to be "the first" to do something.

Who is taller:  Cam by a about 3-4 inches.

Who is a better singer:  Let's put it this way.....neither of us should EVER quit our day jobs.  I will say Kindergarteners do appreciate my awful singing.  Cam does love to sing in the shower though.  He puts his iPhone in a zip-lock baggie and puts it on the shelf in the shower so he can rock out.

Who is smarter:  I think we are equally smart.  Cam is into technology and scientific stuff, and knows a lot about it.  Get him and Tayler in a room talking about anatomy and watch out!!  I on the other hand and technologically and anatomically challenged.  I am smart with basic books smarts (I had better be after spending thousands of dollars getting my degree!).  I am the resident expert on children though.

Who does the laundry:  We tag-team it.  I wash and dry it, and Cam folds and puts it away.  What a team!

Who pays the bills:  Both of us.  iCal tells us when to pay things.....yet another technological addition Cameron brought to our union.

Who sleeps on the right side:  I do.  Cameron and our cat (Jinx) try to invade nightly, but I always win that battle.

Who mows the lawn:  RW Lawncare does (shameless plug for the family buisness)!  It is nice having your Dad/landloard/resident lawncare specialist live above you!

Who cooks dinner:  Me.  My names is Lindsey and I am a Food Network-aholic (I am watching it as we speak :)).  I love to cook!

Who drives:  Cam has to drive his car since I cannot drive a manual even though several people have tried to teach me......pretty pathetic huh!  We take turns driving my car though.

Who is more stubborn:  Me.  I blame it on my German heritage.

Who kissed who first:  That is a funny story actually.  Our first kiss only happened when it did because I was bet by some fellow Take 5er's  to do it.  So I did, not thinking it would go anywhere.  I just wanted the $5.00!  Who knew it would turn into what it did!

Who proposed:  Cameron at Eaglewood Golf Course during the fireworks show on July 3, 2006.  That was where we went on our first date, and had our "real" first kiss where no money was involved.

Who has more friends:  I think we have a fairly even amount.  I think I am better and staying in contact with mine though.

Who is more sensitive:  Me again.  Cam knows exactly when to hug and kiss me and tell me that everything is going to be OK, but also when to walk away because I am being irrational.  I love hormones!

Who has more siblings:  Cameron, although I made a come back when my Mom and Wes got married.  Cam has 3 brothers and 1 sister.  I have 1 sister, 1 step-sister, and 1 step brother.

Who wears the pants:  It depends on the situation.  We both take control of different aspects of our life.

Well, there you have it!  All you wanted to know about Cameron and I, and then some!

I Wrote a Grant!!!

So in my freedom, I decided to write a grant for educational supplies for my new class at Horizon.  I figure since I am working with an at-risk population of kids, I should do everything that I can so make sure they have a good learning environment and all the resources possible to enhance their kindergarten experience.  My grant was officially approved and published today on Donors Choose website.  If you would like to take a look at it, or possibly even donate to my students cause go to www.donorschoose.org and search for Encouraging Imaginative Play (that's the name of my proposed grant).  Keep in mind that all donations, no matter what the amount, are tax deductible.  Tell all your friends!!

One Year Later......and More!!

We've made it a year!  Today is our 1 year wedding anniversary!  Who ever said the first year is the hardest obviously didn't marry the right person.  I will spare you the mushy sappy stuff that most people say on their anniversary, cause that's not our style!  We love each other and are just excited to see what life has in store for us!  We don't have any big plans, cause we are poor, but we are going to dinner tonight to celebrate after Cam gets off work and maybe to see "The Incredible Hulk" (romantic huh!).  We are saving up to go back to Mexico next year for our 2nd Anniversary.  Cam had been practicing his iMovie skills and made this movie with pictures from our wedding.

We've had a pretty fun week.  Cort threw her sister Megan an 80's themed surprise party at Millcreek saturday night.  It was so much fun to see everyone decked out in their 80's attire (good thing I saved all my stuff from Liz's bachelorette party!!).  Cam went an extra 2 weeks without a haircut so he could have a "Flock of Seagulls" hair-do.  It wasn't quite long enough to do perfectly, but you got the idea.  Best dressed of the evening went to my Dad though!  He hates to dress up, but went all out for Meg.  We had a great time!  Here are some pictures.....

Me and Dad Rockin!
Joey, Dad, Natalie, and Cort
Lyle (He isn't dresses up because he had to catch a flight to Indiana to Judge the Miss Indiana pageant), Me, and Dad.

Cort, Megan, and Janine (their Mom)

We had a nice, but busy Father's Day yesterday.  We went to visit Cam's dad, Greg in the afternoon before Karine, Cam's mom, went to work  at the hospital.  We had dinner with them to celebrate Father's Day last Sunday with the whole Boam family.  Then we had a BBQ with my Dad at our house.  Here are some pics.....

Cort and Tayler
Dad and his new golf club cart.  Happy Father's Day!

We have a lot of great guys in our lives we want to know how much we love and appreciate all they do for us.  You all have helped to make us who we are!  Thanks for being such great Dads!

Dad/Rick (Lindsey's Dad)
Dad/Greg (Cameron's Dad)
Wes (Lindsey's Step-Dad)
Grandpa Dan (Lindsey's Grandpa)
Poppi (Cameron's Grandpa)
Thank you for all you've done for us, and for all you will do in the future!  We love you all!!!!

Happy 3G iPhone Day!

Finally, all the suspense is over.....3G iPhone will be arriving in a store near you on July 11th (with a much lighter price tag)! Cameron couldn't be happier (and he would love to sell you one too!)! Check out all the new specs (if you care to know) at www.apple.com. Here is a photo taken at the unveiling at WWDC.  Happy 3G iPhone Day!!  (And, even though Cameron tried to explain 3G to me again last night.....I still don't know what it means!!)

And the blog gets better!

You know you have a husband who works retail when you are home on a Friday night messing around with you blog. I finally figured out how to add music to my blog! Our playlist rocks! Cameron will probably beat me when he sees some of the songs I put on...... but they all make me happy! Enjoy!

One more thing...

I neglected to mention something very near and dear to Cam's heart.  For all of you fellow Mac nerds out there, Cam would like me to remind all of you of the important events next week.  Next week is Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) beginning on Monday the 9th, and running through the 13th.  This is the conference where Steve Jobs (the CEO of Apple, and Cameron's idol) unveils new products (like the iPhone last year).   There is a lot of talk about the release of the new 3G iPhone.......And no, Cameron doesn't know about what they are releasing even though he is an Apple employee, and no I still don't know what the heck 3G means even though Cam has been talking about it for MONTHS!!!!  Keep your fingers crossed for a new 3G iPhone for Cam.  He will be crushed if they don't release it

Freedom.....Is it really a good thing?

Well, I have made it through my first week of summer vacation.  I love the thought of not going to work......and still being paid!  It hasn't been all vacation though.  I am coordinating the summer reading tutoring program at Parkside, so my Tuesdays and Thursdays are filled with tutoring.  It has been a real eye opener for me being "in charge".  I am in charge of of 5 tutors, and responsible for making sure that the children are coming to their scheduled session.  I have been amazed at how many parents just haven't brought their kids to their session....especially because it is FREE!!!  There is no other place where you can take your child to receive 1-on-1 tutoring based on the child's academic needs and not have to pay a dime.  Most tutoring centers charge at least $20-30 per 45 minute sessions.  We had 7 out of 20 kids not show up on Thursday!  Ugh!  I told the tutors to bring a book next week, since we don't know if these kids will show up.

I went to lunch with Kimmy this week.  I think we both forget that we live so close to each other.  It was good to chat, and we both decided we need to get together at least every 2 weeks.

Thursday after tutoring, I went with my Mom, Tayler, and Grandma to lunch at Mimi's and to visit my Great Grandma.  I don't make it to visit her much so it was good to see her.  Her memory is starting to slip, so she tells the same stories over and over again, and has some pretty interesting takes on life.....she thought the care center employees had put a camera inside her bathroom.  She kept telling us that we couldn't see it because it was "part of the props".  We had a hard time not laughing but had to so we didn't hurt her feelings.  At least she still has a sense of humor and can laugh about life.  It really made me realize how miserable it is to get old.  I have told Cameron that as soon as I can't go to the bathroom on my own, I am done!  Since I have more free time now, I plan on going with my Grandma to visit her more often.

I have come to the realization that complete freedom for me is not easy.  I am so used to having a pretty tightly scheduled life, and this complete freedom thing has been really weird for me.  I almost haven't known what to do with myself.  Since I function so well with a schedule, I made myself one.  I know that sounds really strange, but I did.  I figured that if I didn't, I could very easily waste a lot of time during summer vacation.  I scheduled chores for me to do everyday, time to go to the gym, and time for me to do something for me (reading, shopping, etc).  I also am making it my goal to have all my "chores" and other stuff done by noon.  I hate the thought of wasting my day away so I am going to be ready and showered everyday by 1.  I know you are all probably laughing at me that I had a little freak out because I wasn't scheduled, since most people would love it, but I need structure.

The other thing I have come to realize this week is how little Cameron and I take pictures!  I look at all these blogs that are filled with pictures, and we really don't have many.  So, my other summer goal is to start taking pictures of us doing "stuff".  Tayler and I hiked up Millcreek Canyon the other day, but did I think to take my camera...NO!!  So that is my goal for the summer....start doing a better job documenting our lives!
